Winnipeg Sports and Recreation Brochures
Whether to are a spectator or participant, Winnipeg has plenty of professional sports and recreational opportunities to you to enjoy.
PROFESSIONAL SPORTS:
After a 15 year absence, the city’s professional NHL hockey team, The Winnipeg Jets, returned to Winnipeg in 2011 to great fanfare. The public sold record numbers of season tickets and “Jets Gear” to help secure the team’s return. So it may prove difficult to buy tickets but if that’s the case, you’ll certainly be able to take in the atmosphere at a local pub.The Winnipeg Jets play in MTS Centre, a recently built, state of the art, arena on Portage Avenue in Downtown Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers is Winnipeg’s professional CFL football team and plays in the Winnipeg Stadium located to the north and next to Polo Park Shopping Centre in St. James, a 5 minute drive from the airport. A new stadium is being built in the south of the city on the University of Manitoba campus. It will also play home to the University of Manitoba Bisson’s football team.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes is Winnipeg’s American Association, Northern Division, baseball team. The Goldeye’s play at Shaw Park (formerly Canwest Park) located across the street, north of The Forks grounds and the Manitoba Human Rights Museum. The team is owned and operated my Winnipeg’s Mayor, Sam Katz.
